Dead notice: Friends and relatives of Saint Leo Abbey.

August 9, 2011

Fr. Paul George Romfh, O.S.B.

Fr. Paul went home to the Lord on August 9, 2011 after a lengthy illness.  George Romfh was born in Miami, Florida on October 24, 1937. He attended Saint Leo Prep School and upon graduation began studies at Georgia Tech. Feeling a strong call to the priesthood and the monastic life; he asked to join Saint Leo Abbey. He was accepted into the monastery by Abbot Marion Bowman, O.S.B. and received the name of Paul.

On the completion of the Novitiate, Paul was professed as a monk on June 14, 1959.

Father Paul then completed his studies for the priesthood and was ordained on December 21, 1963.  He was sent to the Catholic University of America, where he completed a Masters in music composition.

This degree he used to the benefit of the monastic community and also serving in the music ministry of the local Diocese of Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Father Paul served the monastery for a time as Prior, and also as a pastor of a local parish. When he came back to the abbey Paul was helping in the Development Office of the Abbey.  A serious car accident and poor health soon confined him to his room in the Abbey Infirmary. His infirmities finally made it necessary for him to be placed in the local Hospice where he died.

Fr. Paul is survived by his two sisters, two brothers and also by many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on the Abbey Church at 6:30 pm on Tuesday.
The Funeral Mass will be Celebrated by Abbot Isaac Camacho, O.S.B. on Wednesday the 17th of August at 11:00 am.
For those who wish there will be a light lunch after Mass.
