Charles Woodhouse will become an oblate novice on March 21, 2015.

He and his wife have a home in Cedar Key, Florida, but they also live in Italy.

He prepared five articles about his hiking trips to find the ancient sites of eremetical monasticism in Italy near their home. He also included a piece on the village of Scanno.

The first of the articles is from their exploration of the Eremo di San Bartolomeo in Legio. “Eremo” is a hermitage.

The picture at the top of this blog was taken by Barbara along the trail. Its violet and rose colors reminded me of the beauty of penance during Lent and of the rose-colored Laetare Sunday on March 15, 2015, just past the midpoint of Lent.

PS. March 7, tonight Charles emailed another essay -- hence the change of the blog title from five to six.  Thanks Charles, these are interesting essays on a little known part of Italy.

The other five articles in this series by Charles Woodhouse are here
