Oblate Christmas Party December 9, 2012

Ana, who wrote the name tags, Zoila, Hector and daughter

Ana greeted everyone and provided some pretty name tags as we entered the Lake Room for the Christmas party.

The monks decorated the tree, the Lake Room, and the Coffee Room -- thank you monks.

Else in the foreground with the white shirt provided a page of her favorite places which read like a European and USA travel guide.

Monks' and Oblates' favorite places were posted at the party and helped to immediately spark some interesting conversations -- "I didn't know you had been ...."

One monk and an Oblate found they shared a link to a zoo which led to a conversation about a rhinoceros -- exactly what a list of Monk and Oblate favorite places posted outside the Lake Room was supposed to do.

David and I talked with Brother Benedict about his extensive travels in the far east.  The conversation reminded me that people who pursue a monastic life often have seen much of the secular world.  Others see a contemplative path from an early age.  The Benedictine charism encompasses both.

Abbot Isaac talks to an Oblate.  The Oblate Christmas party is a good way for the Oblates to thank the monks and Abbot Isaac for all their kindness through the year.  The Oblate Program Director is Abbot Isaac and we are fortunate to have him and Brother Prior Stanislaw teach the two Oblate sessions each month. The next Oblate Sunday is January 6, 2013 which starts with 10:00 am Mass.

Tom's Famous Meatballs caused a traffic jam at that end of the table which became a favorite destination during the party.

It was good to be able to put a name to all the great desserts provided by the Oblates.

Beth was just one of the good cooks who made this a wonderful party.
