Six Oblates & Friends Paint 1914 Lake Room

St. Leo Abbey Lake Room freshly painted June 2011

Oblate Kathy organized a June 2011 painting of the Lake Room where the Oblates have their two classes on the first Sunday of the month.  The Lake Room is also a main conference room for all retreats held at the abbey. The painters were Kathy, Gerri, Kristina and her husband James, and Monte and his brother Harry whose construction background was invaluable.

The Lake Room is part of Saint Leo Abbey completed in 1914.

The Lake Room is located on the third floor of the abbey and overlooks Lake Jovita, so named because it was first seen by Judge Dunne on St. Jovita's Day, on February 15, 1882. Later Judge Dunne's own homesite became the home of St. Leo Abbey which was founded in 1889.

Out the double doors is a large open balcony which is a favorite place for prayer and discussions during retreats.
